School is weird. It's a place where many of us make lifelong friends, develop our skills and passions, and prepare us for life. But for many people, school is a place where they don't quite fit. It's an experience that is defined by unnecessary pressure, and where learning can quickly become associated with stress and discouragement due to high academic performance expectations, and a push for all students to follow a specific, proscribed educational trajectory.
On this episode I talk with alternative education administrator Pam Hogan Charron about providing hands-on education for diverse learning styles.
I also chat with Darcy and Kyle Morehouse about the things they focus on...and the things they've chosen to let go, when talking to their kids about school.
And I speak with Poonam Dharni, a social worker who provides mental health support in a New York city middle/high school, through individual counseling, and mediations utilizing a unique Restorative Justice program.
